Mrs. Robinson robinsonmath6.wikispaces.com STUDENT LETTER Welcome to Sixth Grade at Emma Sansom Middle School. I hope that you are excited about this new school year. I am Mrs. Robinson, your sixth grade math teacher. This is my Sixteenth year to teach math at Emma Sansom. According to the Alabama State definition, I am a highly qualified teacher.
My number one goal for this year is for you to learn the value of math. Math may not necessarily be your favorite or easiest subject but you can be successful in learning math. My favorite saying is “there is a time and place for everything”. You must decide when your action is appropriate. I can honestly say that I have been where you are because I too was once a sixth grader at (General Forrest) Emma Sansom. I loved going to school at General Forrest (ESMS) and now I love teaching at (GFMS) Emma Sansom. I hope that you love being a REBEL too.
Sixth grade is one of the major transition years in your life. I will provide every tool and opportunity available to make this a positive experience. In the past your teachers and your parents have accepted the majority of the responsibility in making you successful. This year you, the student, will be taking many of those responsibilities upon yourself. This will require organization and focus. Are you up to the challenge? I hope so because that is part of being a teenager. The other part is all the fun you get to have.
To be successful in math you must do the following things:
Come to class prepared with your supplies everyday.
Binder and Textbook
PENCIL and Pencil Sharpener – no pens - Please bring a personal pencil sharpener that has a lid. (noelectric sharpeners) I do not have a pencil sharpener in my classroom.
HOMEWORK – Don’t come to class without it!
2.Understand and follow the school and classroom rules.
Sit in your assigned desk and immediately get out your binder and begin the board work.
Leaving the classroom for any reason during class time is not permitted.
Failure is NOT an option.
Disruptive behavior is NOT tolerated.
oExcessive talking without permission oOut of seat without permission oArgumentative attitude oDisrespect to authority or another student oFighting or causing harm to another student oStealing or taking things without permission oInappropriate language or behavior oAny action that does not support the statement -- “Treat others the way you wish to be treated”
